I'm Julie, a Counselling Psychologist with a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology and registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
I can help you if you are experiencing difficulties pertaining to: personal emotional difficulties, loss, adjustment issues, relational and interpersonal issues, anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma, coping skills and building resilience, general holistic wellness, work-life balance, issues pertaining to self-esteem, awareness and acceptance.
My approach to therapy can be described as prescriptive eclectic. This means I draw on various psychological theories and tailor my approach specifically to suit each client’s needs and specific difficulties. My aim is to make therapy focused and solution-oriented in an accepting, emotionally safe and containing environment. With this in mind I draw on components of transactional analysis, cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, narrative, and person-centred therapies. I also have my License in Christian Counselling (Counselling Institute of South Africa), and draw from this foundation for clients who hold this preference.
What can I expect from a session?
Psychotherapy sessions are about an hour long. The first session is about getting to know you, your reason for coming to therapy and looking at the way forward. My aim is to help you feel comfortable and safe so that you feel free to share about yourself.
I qualified as a Counselling Psychologist in 2007. I’ve worked predominantly in private practice with people of all ages, as well as in employee well-being and non-profit settings. I also enjoy developing and delivering training. I’m recently expanding into medico-legal assessments. I love what I do and feel honoured to journey with people as they share their stories with me. I’m happily married and have two children.
I offer therapy for individual adults or couples. Couples therapy is helpful for those wanting to prepare for marriage, as well as those already in a committed relationship who are wanting to deal with problem areas, or enhance their relationship. I also offer online therapy to clients who may not be able to attend a face-to-face session or who may be traveling. Psychotherapy is helpful for a wide range of difficulties and problems, as well as for personal growth and development purposes.
Various assessments are offered: Personality assessments to learn more about yourself or your partner in a relationship context; Career and interest assessments for young adults wanting to explore career paths, as well as Clinical assessment for medico-legal purposes.
Group Workshops & Courses
I have a special interest in emotional and holistic wellness. I present workshops and courses pertaining to emotional awareness and lifestyle balance. These are presented in partnership with Family Transformation International. I also give group talks which can be tailored to your specific need (e.g. stress management).
